Expat in Emilia Romagna

Hi everyone!

Thought I would introduce myself and explain briefly my situation and how I have come to be a British Expat in Italy.

I moved to Italy in August 2011 to be with my Italian boyfriend. I spent 2 months in Bologna doing an Italian course. Then I lived in Parma for 5 months. I went back to the uk for 4 months to do the CELTA course and in August 2012 I moved back to Italy to Piacenza to work for an English school.

So my boyfriend and I have been living in Piacenza for 6months now. Although it seems a nice city. There isn't an awful lot to do!

If there are any other expats on here that could offer some advice/suggestions on what to see and do in and around Piacenza that would be great. Good Pubs, restaurants, sights....etc

Thanks :D

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I don't know anything about Piacenza unfortunately so I can't help there.
Hopefully there will more things to do when the better weather gets here. Everything is a bit dead in winter.

Best of luck.

Hi Jane,

I've just recently moved to Parma last October to do the opposite, be with my Italian girlfriend, so I'm not too far from you! Unfortunately I don't know so much of Piacenza, visited one time and found the centre very beautiful.

Have you got transport to get around to other cities? I see there's pretty regular meet ups Reggio/Modena way, though I haven't been yet.

Hope you're doing well! :)

Hi, thanks for your reply's.

I have read your 'New in Parma' post Chris. So how are you finding living there? I thought it was a lovely city, much prettier than Piacenza :)

I wish there were meet ups a bit closer to Piacenza as I think Modena might be a bit far to travel for one evening. There doesn't seem to be any though. I've not really had chance to get to know many people since I've been here. I think everyone goes into hibernation in the Winter, but like Lorna said when the weather picks up, there will be more going on :)

I think most of the Brits and Americans are based more towards Modena/Bologna here unfortunately, with all the super car manufacturers needing engineers etc. I think you're right about the summer too!

I think Parma is beautiful, really a beautiful city :) On the job hunt at the moment still, so feeling a little unsettled here. But I'm sure it will pass when I find something!

Have you been out with your colleagues yet, maybe they know some more of Piacenza? :)

Hi Jane - welcome to here and to Emilia Romagna! I'm the opposite side so can't help much with tips, what to see / do etc in your area.
I always thought of Piacenza as being more towards Milan than the rest of Emilia, so I'm sure it's not all that bad, being so close to Milan.

Hello Jane!

I am not an expat, I was reading in the forum out of curiosity. I have never been to Piacenza but a friend of mine lived there for some months. I can just tell you that yes, it is a small city so there is not a LOT to do.
Anyway they organise several events and festival during the year. Maybe you can check on the Internet page of the municipality to see what's going on. And of course, I am sure you already know it, in February they celebrate Carnival.
Moreover I can suggest you to just type on Google "cosa fare a Piacenza" or "Cosa vedere a Piacenza", there are many sites that explain it.
I hope this helps!
