EES chaos
 

I'm flying out of Milan Malpensa later this month - not looking forward to EES-induced chaos although I'm not subject to this new system. I'll be using my British passport with my Italian permanent residence card (CdS permanente). N.B. My passport doesn't work at the e-gates in Italy.

Has anybody here had first-hand experience of flying in and out of Italy? I was wondering which queue we're supposed to use and how chaotic it actually has been at the airport. Not a fan of missed flights or arguing with any airport staff in Italian style.

.Regularly fly in and out of Brindisi. Don't use Egates on way in, go straight to 'police box', where the queue is generally very short.

Apparently, Milan Linate is in a terrible mess these days but I've heard Malpensa is coping with EES all right.

It all went smoothly flying out from Malpensa T2 this morning. I got to the terminal at 7 am and by 7.20 I was ready to board my flight at 10.30. There's a waiting area with sockets so I was happily working on my laptop there.

Security took 10 minutes to clear. I walked past the EES kiosks, and I was the second person in the queue at passport control. What's notable is the limited number of counters - 2 for EU/EEA passports and 2 for all other passports - and e-gates. So I can imagine the queues move very slowly at peak times.

Let's see what kind of EES chaos awaits me when I fly into Milan next week. With love from Blighty

The issue might soon be jet fuel. Catania, Brindisi and Venice have already had problems.

@philat98, I guess there's always the Eurostar train or ferry from the continent.

I've just flown into Milan Malpensa. I was among the first people to get to passport control. There was a short queue of 20-30 people in front of me - the staff member in charge of "all passports" was so kind that he created a separate queue for Brits who weren't using the e-gates. Hats off to this lad! :D

EES does take longer but it took me about 15 minutes to go through the border. All but one counter was open. Well done Malpensa Airport :thumbs_up:
