Earthquake - Italy
Earthquake hits Italy.
I have no idea where you all are in Italy.
Just hope you , your family and your friends are all far away from it and are safe.

We have BE members scattered all over Italy including the stricken area so I hope to God they're safe.

Our flat had a terrible shaking at 1.30am this morning and we are 50km from Norcia. Then there was another strong quake an hour later. The shutters have been rattling about every 15 minutes since.
It is lucky that the area hit is sparsely populated.

We're 145 kms from Perugia. There was a dreadful loud shaking at 3.35 and another at 4.35 exactly. Luckily all is well in our village apart from a few very frightened elderly people.

Re: Earthquake - Italy
Thanks for your message Lorna. We weren't in any danger fortunately. Earthquakes are quite common in Umbria and there are a few wrecked villages waiting repair. We had a few small quakes last year that were centered below our village and they were more frightening than the one this morning.
I've just been watching the rescue effort in Amatrice on RAI3. It looks like a lot more effort is needed if they are going to pull people out the houses alive.

I'm glad you're all okay, but I don't want to watch the news any more today. The death toll keeps going up and I've just seen some footage about an old lady buried in rubble who was more worried about wetting herself than being rescued, poor love.

We are an awful long way from it, but surprisingly 2 of our dogs, who are normally very quiet at night, both barked at the same time.

I bluddy well hate quakes. So random.
The news coming out is terribly sad. Hope Italy gets all the help it needs for rescue and recovery.
Poor people left without their lovely villages and homes.

Just popping in from the NZ forum and Christchurch to wish you all the best - we are thinking of you over here and I am sure that when (not if) Christchurch organises donations for the areas that have been hit we will be generous.

Just looking in from the France forum, been watching on the tv here the devastation since yesterday. Really terrible. My thoughts go out to all those affected, and the rescue crews - who appear to be having a terrible time due to the remote location.

Having lived through the 1980 Irpina earthquake, my heart bleeds for them all up there.
