Geordie - looks to me like the truck is pulling out of a layby. Either way, it's quite an oblique left turn to maybe it just pulled wider to be able to make the turn.
I'd be prepared to wager the driver of the car hit by the moped was using a phone, there seems to be few reasons for it to drift into the oncoming traffic.
In Trentino, we are plagued by bikers in the summer, shattering the silence in the mountains, using passes like race tracks and, sadly, there are far too many weekend accidents.

You can bet it being George Clooney on the scooter it will be quite well investigated, if not by the police, then by the press!

The roads around us have a shrine every few miles indicating the death toll. In Umbria there is quite a problem with off road motor bikes. They use shepherd tracks through forests and hills travelling fast in groups. Quite scary soemtimes. Tuscany seems able to stop them but not Umbria. I think our Guardia Forestale spend most of the day in the bar or the office.

On very rare occasions the biker boys are out here in the same way, but I guess only the shepherd is at risk and even there I would not want to go up against their dogs!

I have driven in a few countries but my worst experiences have been in Italy. It is nerve wracking at times. Overtaking in oncoming traffic, overtaking on bends, tailgating, impatience, driving very fast on helter skelter winding roads going from hill towns. 3 cars and 2 mopeds trying to get in to two lane dual carriageway traffic. Yes lots of shrines, tops in Europe for accidents. Not a very relaxing holiday experience

My pet hates are:
1. The huge number of drivers using mobile phones. Men and women, with and without passengers, and frequently in new models which must surely have hands-free connectivity.
2. Swinging out wide when making a turn: this can even mean crossing into on-coming traffic when taking a right-hand turn. It's as though they have been told that over-use of the steering wheel can wear it out.
3. Incorrectly set head lights. Not such a problem with longer summer nights, but in winter ....

When we get off the ferry in Dover in December, every year,I have to think more about being on the left.When we get off in Dunkirk in March,it's just second nature,strange.

If they are of an older generation many of them may have 'bought' their licences rather than having passed a practical driving test.
