Brexit woe. Is there anyone out there in a civil union (not same sex) who has managed to have it recognised in Italy as valid? Ive got clients who now need a Permesso di Soggiorno and I have a sneaking suspicion that they may have to get married for her to stay in Italy - he has a work contract so wants to ask for congiungimento familiare - but Im not sure it will be accepted.

but a Civil Union contracted in another country could be recognised in Italy? Uk Civil Unions are recognised in POland, LIthuamia and even Spain I think, but Italy wants marriage it seems. What a pain this BRexit lark.....

There is also "convivenza di fatto" and I can only guess this is not dependent upon immigration status, aka Brexit.

Thats useful thing to have if you live with an Italian partner. Also coppie di fatto. Relatives can kick you out like a dog.

Good to know, but I wonder if, seeing that the Permesso di Soggiorno application asks for coniuge, a convivenza di fatto would cut it......
