Re: Cars searched at Calais?
Well I can't say for certain but last August we drove that way in our motorhome and spent most of the journey from Scotland trying to eat all our remaining cheddar and pork pies. There was us, about 3 cars and loads of trucks on the boat (didn't seem like very many people were travelling), but still nobody checked us. Which was kinda frustrating!
On the other hand the other week I did happen to see copies of a person's court papers where they were fined several thousand euros for "smuggling" 8 packs of cigarettes into Italy on a cruise ship. So this sort of thing does get picked up on sometimes.
Anyway, the funny thing was we subsequently discovered that it's possible to buy meat and dairy in the EU...so maybe it's not worth smuggling it in! :-)
