For a 500 Sport, 1993, I pay 510 eurines per year 3rd party insurance and about 143 per year possession tax.
For a Merc E270 station wagon I pay 650 insurance, 5000 Kms per year limit, no drivers under 30: and about 430 per year possession tax.
These figures will vary according to region & province. Regione Campania/Provincia Napoli is notoriously expensive for insurance. N.B. it is almost impossible to get 'fully comprehensive' (casco) for any vehicle over 5 years old.
ciao for now,

For a Fiat Panda 1.1 bought new but now six years old, I pay €870 third party with breakdown cover plus I think around €160 for road tax. Sardinia. I know quite a few people who pay more for insurance and road tax each year than their car is worth.

I just renewed last Friday, the day my insurance was expiring. For my 8 year old Golf 1.9 TDI I paid €399 for third party, breakdown, legal expenses and personal injury. The quote was for €480 with fire and theft, vandalism and natural events like hail but I'm fed up of paying all that money. When it was new I always had mini-kasko cover but I took that off as well last year. You'd be surprised how many people bother only to get third party cover for brand new cars. My friend crashed his Alfa Romeo GT a couple of years back because he was distracted by a dolly bird walking past on the pavement. He went into the back of the car in front and had to pay almost €5000 to repair his car. A car that he bought for more than €30000. He was gutted. But to be fair, it was a very pretty dolly bird.

I don't know how much my bollo auto will be. It expired in August so there will be interest to pay on top. It's around will be around €230-250.

Oh, I've also need to get it serviced and do the revision!! Doh!!

I am glad I didn't cancel this. Recently my car got battered in a hailstorm. Hardly a panel on the car was not damaged.

I managed to get pretty much the same effect merely by parking outside the Palazzo in the street here

I am happy to take the risk because the excess is €500 in this case. My car got hit once by a single hailstone that caused a dent. Rather than go thru the insurance I took it to my local garage and they tried to fix it with suction pads but didn't succeed completely so they didn't charge me which was very nice of them. You can hardly see the dent so I was pretty pleased.

I just paid €229 bollo auto for my car and €196 for the OH's. So with the insurance, that's €824 in just a couple of days with the service and revision yet to come. I will be walking the streets for a few weeks...

Buying over our neighbours old (very old) fiat punto - all the online quotes are over 1,000 euros per annum (the car is a 1998 model so we only want enough insurance to make it legal to drive). The car has just been roadworthied and has all the right papers - just need insurance and to pay the car tax - please help!! it is an italian car and will only be driven locally

Recently purchased policy for 1.2 ltr car; bonus/malus 13 via Allianz in Abruzzo for 920 euros. Not sure that this helps much.

The insurance figure sounds about right, but make sure all the previous years of possession tax are paid up, or you'll become lumbered with the backlog and associated penalties.
