Buying and rennovating a property in Italy.
An interesting video that talks about a lot of the possible hurdles involved in buying and restoring properties in Italy. The lawyer mentions that a €1 house might cost around €90,0000 to restore.

Who in their right mind would buy a property in a jurisdiction wher they have no right of residence ? OK, there are a few, but surely this is NOT smart !

Rich posh people living a privileged pampered lifestyle in an "Under the Tuscan Sun" manner
They never see real Italian people working hard to scrape a living for their family and of course they would never live in a real village where life is punctuated with barking dogs Apes struggling up the hill spewing out fumes and grannys despatching one of their rabbits for the pot And of course they would never get to experience the warmth and friendliness of those same villagers as they struggle to understand all the strange things that the stranieri get up to like eating outside or converting their cantinas but they are all ready to drop everything to offer help and plenty of advice!!!!

Does anyone agree with me that "residence" is a matter of declaration, not supplication; that is, I do not apply to the Commune for permission to reside?

As is usual for Sgarbi, he jumped on the bandwagon claiming it as his own, and then got done for mafia connections and had to step down as mayor of salemi. Another total failure to add to his bulging cv of disasters.

What is the motivation of the original owners to allow the comune to sell their property for Euro1? Do they get compensation?

Interesting point - Most of the properties were 'abandoned' and the comune expropriated them as they were unsafe. However, there are some owners who were never notified of the exproprio and are now appealing to get their houses back. Legally some of these re extremely dodgy.

Sgarbi wants to become the mayor of Rome at the next election or failing that cultural assessore for Rome's centrodestra. He has managed to get hold of a lot of jobs in his career.

And yesterday he revealed that he has had covid but was asymptomatic. He does have however 'cancer of the balls' as he delicately puts it - and is now railing against all and sundry because covid patients have priority.
