Buying a Car in Italy - any advice on where to look?
Hi, I'm moving to Milan in 3 weeks time and am lucky enough to have secured work but I've been told I have to have to have a car. I have approx 3000 Euros to spend on a used vehicle. Was thinking of buying Fiat for ease of parts/servicing in Italy.
>>>Does anyone know of an Italian website version or similar to Autotrader that exists? Or of any magazines/classifieds that can be purchased which advertise cars for sale??
>>>What is required to drive a car legally in Italy? i.e. Road, Tax, MOT cert, Insurance Cert. I presume they have an Italian system covering these things??
>>>>Also would it be better to buy a left hand drive car in the UK and drive it over rather than buy there maybe? Any experiences of changing over uk plates to Italian(costs/difficulties)?
>>>I was also toying with the idea of a short term rental for 3 months if this is cost effective, just until I get settled, any advice people can provide on where to look for this in the milan area would be appreciated.
Any thoughts, advice, comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Try Subito, plenty of choice... be prepared for a shock when you come to insure it.
Try Italsure for the insurance

Try autoscout.it as well.
Online insurance is probably the cheapest - have a look at genialloyd or directline.it

In Italy there's a magazine called QuattroRuote you can buy it anywhere. Everybody use this magazine as reference and for sure can help you to understand if a second hand car offer is decent.
The online version is free but with no quotation:
http://www.quattroruote.it/tutte_le_...istamarche.cfm
Where to look for a second hand car:
Garages (in Italian: "Concessionari auto")
"free paper magazine" about second hand car
http://car4you.quattroruote.it/AppPo...rchDetail.aspx
http://auto.secondamano.it/auto
http://www.autoscout24.it/
http://www.autosupermarket.it/
http://www.automobile.it/home/index.html
Insurance in Italy is much more expensive then anywherelse in Europe try quotes here:

In bocca al lupo (Good luck)

You need residency to buy a car.
