Bulgaria and Poland without Russian gas, Italy next?
Italy is arguing with Russia over payments for gas. Italy gets 40% of gas from Russia so a cut will have quite an impact both on supply and prices. Fortunately we are over the cold weather.

The pandemic showed they can do amazing things when under pressure. Time to really put all of our efforts into alternative power.

‘Italy has gas reserves of over a year’
This is a bit meaningless in the current situation. It is gas storage that counts. Reserves are gas in the geological structure that can be assessed at some time in the future and almost certainly will take many years to access. Storage is how much gas is readily available. This number is obviously very sensitive but 15 days in winter and a month in summer would probably see off storage supplies if there are no new imports to maintain. The reality is that Italy is a huge importer of natural gas although this has been declining for a number of years as other energy sources come into play but is still a very significant part of total energy supply. |
