Hi,I asked the same question a few months ago.Apparently they grow similar to carrots,so no reason why they are not here.Perhaps Italians don't like them.I have the same trouble with kidneys,I have to order them from the butcher 5 days in advance or they'll end up in the bin or somewhere.Cheers,Brian.

Just a thought - i make my own bacon and ham. If you can get pork leg or belly, plus salt sugar and a magic ingredient called prague no 1 powder you are sorted!

Prague no 1 is itself 94% salt and 6% sodium nitrite. 1kg will cure several hundred kilos of pork, so you can stick it in your suitcase. Im always expecting customs to ask me about the plastic bag of white powder but sadly they havent, ever.

Takes about 2 weeks, a fridge, sone ziploc bags or food grade plastic boxes. The results are really good, better than most of the junk bought in supermarkets, and there are lots of recipes and additional ingredients one can use like herbs, maple syrup, spices, pepper etc etc etc.

Did you soak it in water first Brian? The smoked ones used to be very salty.

I wonder if I print some pictures of cooked hams and raw gammon joints off internet and take then to the butcher, would he be able to chop a pig to give me what I want or would I end up with a whole and very expensive prosciutto complete with bone?

Re parsnips, we have just brought some back with us from a visit to UK. We have also brought seeds and will be growing our own next year.

I've tried growing coriander but find it goes to seed very quickly.

I've got some growing in the orto right now (first year of trying them). All I can say so far is that the bits above ground look good. Further update after Christmas lunch :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

Hi,ours lasted the whole summer. The secret maybe is a large pot and plenty of watering.Very strong,we only used a few small leaves as opposed to big bunches in the UK.Its gone to seed now,but we will replant it or reseed in the new year, cheers,Brian.

I repeat, I hate you all. Don't ever tell me you've found the perfect sausage mix as well.
