BBC iPlayer
Can anyone advise me how to get BBC iPlayer working. Everytime I log on and try, I get a message saying it is only available to people in the UK.
I have a huge satellite dish, 120cm and have Sky but here, near Cassino, just North of Naples, I am unable to get BBC. |
Re: BBC iPlayer

Re: BBC iPlayer
The only way is to download something like "Expat network".
http://www.my-expat-network.co.uk/ Cost 5 pounds a month thru paypal, I got it 2 months ago and you can watch anything on BBC and ITV etc. It gives you a "UK IP address" which allows you to see the I Player etc. I live in Canada and have no affiliation at all! Simon. |
Re: BBC iPlayer
It's nothing to do with your satellite as explained above it is all about copyright.
The only way to get around it is to install a proxy which can be a pain in the neck as it isn't easy for the UK and most expect you to pay for the privilege. I know a few people have signed up for various services that provide access in a similar way with success. The other way around it is via a slingbox. You would need a willing household in the UK to make that work. Depending on what you want to watch you can also find alot on various torrent sites - I'm assuming if you want i-player you were happy to pick specific progs. UKNova, Torrentday and a few others are all pretty good for UK programmes. HTH.:) |
Re: BBC iPlayer
I am watching UK TV in Puglia now and so far it is free, try www.easyonlinetv.com (Groovy TV), the blue buttons work fine.

Regarding streaming or downloading of programs directly from the broadcaster such as BBC iPlayer, C4's 4onDemand as well as those from the US broadcasters such as NBC on Demand - it is only possible from within the UK or USA respectively as those services are restricted to UK (or US) IP addresses due to broadcasting rights restrictions. To bypass this restriction, you would need either - a UK proxy or a UK VPN These are low cost solutions for which you can google for further info. |
Re: BBC iPlayer
I thought Channel 4 was the exception? It was when it started. You could access it from anywhere in the world. I haven't for a while 'cos there isn't anything I wanted to watch!!:p

That's why I'm happy to find them on the web - I watch them in my own time!

Re: BBC iPlayer
It might have been during the beta testing stages but once it's online they cannot allow access from outside their broadcast territory, e.g. Italy might only be half way thru broadcasting Friends or something for which Rai might have paid a King's ransom for the broadcast rights... only for the viewers to switch off and download from NBC...

Re: BBC iPlayer
It might hve been that, rather than just have a weeks worth of viewing, CH4 decided to put up their entire content for viewing whenever you want to... I do remember that being a big thing... but only if you're in the UK.
