Default Permanent house swap

Hello all,

Has anyone ever tried permanent house swapping (as opposite to a holiday house swap)? I am thinking of swapping an apartment upstairs in my house in Abruzzo for a small property in UK. Any advice? Anyone knows any good websites for this kind of swap?

How does that work legally with the paperwork and deeds and stuff?

It would count as a permuta - but being between two different countries would cause lots of problems and expense - nearly all at the Italian end. You would need lawyers with a base in the UK and Italy to resolve it. Also, a flat in abruzzo probably wouldn't even buy you a garage in the UK at the moment - Im sorry to say.

Hehehe, is anything ever easy in Italy?

Actually, I was surprised to see that there are some small properties in UK that cost almost the same as what I am hoping to get for the apartment here in Abruzzo. I am flexible about the location, which might help. Anyway, I want to try and see what comes out of it.
