Default Advice - visa / tax - working remotely

Hi there, would love some advice please.

My partner and I (not married), would like to move to Italy, get residence.

I have British + French passports - so EU citizen. However, I work for an American company 30hrs a week, as a ‘global contractor’ on a fixed contract. Should I declare myself as self employed, employed or what’s the best option here? Basically I’m a remote worker - Ive heard there is recently a new visa for that?

My partner also works remotely, but full time for a consultancy based in the uk. He can move to contract working for them if needed. However, he is British, no EU passport. we’ve been together over 4 years, I’ve also heard that maybe as we’ve been together a long time and I’m an EU citizen, he can migrate with me?

What are our options here? We are considering buying a house there in the next year or so also. There seems to be quite a bit of contradictory information online!

Thanks in advance for any help.

As an EU citizen you dont need any type of visa. You can come to Italy, find somewhere to live and ask for residency within 3 months of your arrival. For your partner things are more difficult. He will need to complete a Permesso di Soggiorno kit within 8 days of arrival and then get the permesso. As an unmarried couple you have no shortcut. Either get married or have a civil union and then he can apply for ricongiungimento familiare. If you're a same sex couple then it's more difficult. Basically you need to find a house to rent or buy as your first step and make sure your partner is on the lease or act of sale.
