PM Urged to Quit

GBP – Sterling finished the week marginally lower in what proved to be tumultuous week for Brexit and UK politics. To summarise, the EU have proposed for an extension of Article 50 until the 22nd May providing parliament approve a withdrawal agreement by the end of this week. Failure to do so and the extension will be rolled in to the 12th April at which point the UK would leave with no deal or would need to provide an alternative plan.
Over the weekend May called on Brexit supporting lawmakers, Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Steve Baker to her Chequers residence to discuss whether there is enough support in the commons to back her deal. In reply, it has been reported that she was told that she must set out a timetable to leave office if she wants her deal to be voted through.
The PM will be holding a cabinet meeting this morning to discuss her Brexit strategy and developments from here will no doubt dictate sterling’s moves for the rest of the week.

EUR – Eurozone manufacturing data plunged to a five year low on Friday with services activity dropping to a two-month low. The data continues to support a slower economic outlook for the Eurozone with all the Brexit uncertainty no doubt having an impact.
President Draghi’s speech on Wednesday will be the highlight of the week with respect to news from Europe.

USD – US manufacturing activity slid to a 21-month low in March adding to the recent set of soft data from the States. Concerns now seems to be creeping into the market of a possible impending recession in the US also.
This sets us up for data on Thursday where we are expecting to see growth in the 4th quarter drop to 2.4% from 2.6%.
