A question for all you IT bods in OZ

Hi,

We have heard a couple of things that are concerning us. I just wanted to find out whether they are true or not.....

1) there are more people looking for IT jobs in OZ than there are jobs
2) you have to take a step backwards when you get a job in Oz. My hubby is a project manager at the mo - would it be likely that he would have to go back to being a developer?

Would love to hear the experiences of people actually in the IT business in Oz.

Many thanks.

By the way Brisbane is the place that interests us most so info re Brisbane job market would be especially appreciated!

I know 2 people who got jobs in Sydney with very little effort - one is a Citrix specialist going to EDS, got the job after sending a speculative email to a resource manager - $95k.

The other joined Touchbase (call centres) from NZ after doing some work for them. $100k+ salary.

Hubby had to take a step backwards because he was more concerned about who he worked for. However within a year he was promoted to a better position than he had in the UK. Just need to wait for the pay to catch up to the UK one :D :D

Yes, most PMs wouldn't be able to do a developer's job, they haven't got the technical ability ! :p

Only if you've used the book as a pillow, coffee cup coaster and paper weight, are you allowed. :D

Did all the interviews in London before I moved and had a couple of calls from Oz office to confirm and had my job before I aqrrived. Salary pretty much equivalent to what I was earning in the UK. I have put a new post on the employment forum - if you're interested, drop me CV by email to [email protected]
