Default IT professional looking for sponsorship

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help or advise on the best way to get an employer sponsored visa to work in Australia.

I am a data/voice network engineer and would need to get employer sponsorship because my skills/certifications are not recognized by the ACS.

I have 8 years experience working in this field and have Cisco certifications gained throughout that time:

Cisco Certified Voice Professional
Cisco Certified Network Professional
Cisco Certified Academy Instructor
Cisco Certified Network Associate
Cisco Advanced Wireless LAN Field Specialist

Any advice would also be great. Cheers

That's kind of weird and most likely an oversight by the Australians, my certs are CompTIA and MS but I have seen CISSP on the sought after list so they must recruit for CCNAs.

Have you tried contacting an immigration consultant ?

Thanks for your reply mate.

Unfortunately they can't help on this as Cisco certifications including the coveted CCIE are just not rated by the ACS!

That's weird, why is CISSP on their list then ?

It doesn't make any sense, I'm not really looking at Australia specifically myself, except as a kind of last resort.

The ACS appear to be behind the times on a lot of technologies - their guidelines are currently 2 years old and a LOT happens in IT in that amount of time.

I am having to take old certifications before the ACS will recognise my skills; even though 2 newer types of certification are available. I have nearly 8 years experience across all software development including development, testing, business analysis and project management. It is quite frustrating that I have to take a step back in time but I consider it worth it in the end.

People air their opinion quite a lot about this type of problem - essentially ACS are seen as causing some harm to Australia's IT skills shortage as they do not keep their criteria up to date enough - meaning a lot of talent cannot get into the country to work.
