Hi Fellow members,
I am planning on moving to Oz in a month or so. I have been doing the rounds of the job sites and applying for jobs, but the response is bad.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to go abt it? Do you usually wait until u land there and then give a call to the agencies? How does it work?
Thanks in advance!

What I done was monitor the job listings sites (jobnet, seek etc.) for positions relevant to me. Made a list of contact details and then sorted this by number of jobs, relevance, gut feeling... then within my first week set about speaking to them and hopefully visiting them in person.
Whether this helped??? I took on a contracting position a week later leading to a permanent position 6 months on.
It may help if you tell us where you are heading and what fields you are looking at.
Good luck, Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the info.
I am primarily in the MS technology - .Net, C#, SQL Server, etc. I do have some project management exp.
Would you know how the market is for these skills right now?
Thanks !

Hopefully someone else will be able to comment.
I use the job listing sites to get an idea of how it's going for my area of IT. i set up some email alert services as soon as i could to gauge which way the market was going. I specialise in as400, edi and application integration. The market in sydney was growing for the first quarter of this year, but then stalled and appears to be on the way back down. We'll see.
Again good luck in your search.

Hi,
It's best to wait until you get there.
You are wasting your time otherwise.
