Any advice for someone starting their ACS application please
Hello everyone
First time here so I hope you will please forgive the obvious post. I have just started my ACS application and wondered if you could provide me some links, resources, or first hand accounts of what the ACS are looking for. My family and I have been wanting to kick start this for sometime so any help anyone can give me would be wonderful.
I have a HND in Business IT and over 15 years experience and am currently working as a Systems designer / IT Consultant so I was going to apply under the "Computing Professionals not elsewhere classified" classification. The PIM guidelines show me the specialisations in this area but is there anywhere I can get some more detail? I have read on the forums posts from people who have submitted like 40+ pages detailing their experience, is this what they are looking for or is it just an extreme? I know it will vary for everyone but I have worked for the same company for the last 7 years so will one reference that illustrates my suitability under this classification cover it or will they be looking for more? Also what format should the resume take? I guess something outside of the normal 2 page layout would be expected as this is where I should be selling my experience and achievements. Any examples of the sort of thing people have submitted in the past would be fantastic.
Thanks again for taking the time to read this post. I'm hoping to get my app sent in the next few weeks to know for sure if I have a shot at this.

Hi there,
big Q for your 1st post !
It seems a minefield at first but all starting point info should be on www.acs.org.au
Also take a look at www.rplhelp.co.uk for some good advice.
If you are after quick advice, although they seem to be keeping/adding more IT jobs to the MODL, I'd advise asking a reputable agent.
good luck

Sorry to be so negative but this is how I have found the ACS. Good Luck with your application.

Re: Any advice for someone starting their ACS application please
I was told yesterday that I was accepted by the ACS and my application consisted of 3 projects each about 1500 words (about 2-3 A4's) and the RPL itself about 8 pages.
I'm using an agency and they advised me, the application was acknowledged on 7th January 2008 and I was told yesterday I satisfied the criteria.
My advice is to outline what you have learned, admit mistakes but say how you have learned from them to run suitable projects etc.
Good luck

Does anyone know if there are agencies that specialise in helping people with the ACS application, or will any agency do it?

The company I'm using (Migration Matters) cannot help directly with answers to IT related questions, but they did provide examples of successful papers.
