457 Visa Class (Australia)

Anyone out there got a 457 Visa for working in I.T. in Australia?

How did you get it and how much aggravation was involved?

Hello Stephen,

I found it quite easy to get the 457 visa. The agency I was with (Eurolink, but they are now called Aristotle) in Sydney did all the paperwork ...etc. I was allowed to work until my passport was stamped with the visa. So long as you have some in demand skill sets (mine was MS-Exchange/Desktop Support) then hopefully you shouldn't have too many problems.
Please bear in mind I was in Australia at the time though and I personally called into the agency. Registered on the Monday, working by the Friday - aus$45 / hour, and that was back in 1999. :D
My wife is hassling me all the time to go back now that we have kids. Let me know how you go on.
Best of luck

Hi Stephen

I am an I.T professional in the UK and I managed to get a 457 to work in Sydney, Aus.
It was quite opportunist though, as my company are rolling out a new system into Aus/Asia and Nz, so I said "wouldnt it be a good idea to have someone in the same time zone" and promptly volunteered myself.
I have literally got my 457 Visa approved today, so I'll be in Sydney by April. So it can be done!
It wasnt a hassle as such, but I did have to jump through a few company loops and the firms administrations process.:)
