Default Would like to get Married in Bali

Hello, OH and I have at last decided to tie the knot, after 9 years We would love to get married in Bali as we have heard so many good things, and as we live in Australia, thought it would be great for our families also, as none of us have ever been there. We will have family coming from the UK and friends from Oz We are trying to make this affordable as possible for them all.
OH and I are hoping to go out there for Xmas and have a look around, but was just wondering if anybody has any advice on areas to look at? It all looks great over the internet, but until we get there you never know! We would love to get married, in a sunset beach setting but like I say the internet is mind boggerling with choices. If anybody has done this I would appreciate any tips. Thanks

Hi linloo. OH and I got married in Bali in Sep-07 and would heartily recommend it. We had friends and relatives coming from North America, UK, Aus and Asia and it worked out really well. Everyone came from a few days, had a great holiday, we got to hang out with them for a few days before the wedding and everyone was really relaxed and in holiday mode by the day of the wedding.

We looked at a few resorts and some private villas, and in the end we went for the villa option. Close family all stayed at the villa itself, and the ceremony and reception were all set up in the grounds. Beautiful place in Uluwatu area of Bali called Istana - sits on top of a cliff with 180 degree ocean views and just totally secluded and breath-takingly beautiful. Here's the website http://www.theistana.com/.

The advantage for us of the villa option was that it's totally private, you don't incur accommodation costs and venue costs on top (it's one and the same place) and you can really personalise the event, whereas most resorts offer various standardised packages, plus sometimes have time restrictions (eg music off by midnight).

One thing I would heartily recommend is to get a wedding planner. Doing everything yourself from afar would be just too much. There are a number in Bali, and we went with this one http://www.eliteeventsbali.com/. They were very good - Libby Doherty is Aussie and very easy to deal with. They'll organise everything for you, and have a sister company who can help you with finding and choosing a venue.

Send me a PM if you need any more hints/tips and good luck. You won't regret choosing Bali - it's a magical place and great value.
