Whale spotting

Just wondered if that is a Thing-to-Do in Indonesia. Anyway, thought that BEVS would like this topic.

I know I bang on about the Vega humanitarian vessel a lot but they do post some nice piccies....and they like for them to be shared, so I shall.

They're currently en route to East Timor, in between Lombok and Flores, and they happened upon a large group of pilot whales, who were friendly and curious creatures, and everyone eyeballed each other and enjoyed each other's company :p Here's a few pics below.

If you want to visit the Facebook page and see all the photos, here's the link:

Oooo. BakedBean. It is certainly a BEVS type of topic.

I shall have to see if there is whale spotting opportunities around Indonesia now that you have mentioned this.

As you know MrBEVS and I have attended mass strandings of pilot whales here in New Zealand. It would be simply superb to see them as they should be , not in distress and suffering but out there living their pod lives.

One of the many sightseeing excursions to do in Bali is the Dolphin tour. There is a resort town on the north shore called Lovina where outrigger boats take people out to see hundreds of them.
I've stayed in Lovina a couple of times but there isn't much else to do.
Search for Lovina Dolphins for info but I'd suggest staying the previous night in a reasonable priced hotel by the sea.... and plan doing the Dolphin trip next morning...early....then return, or continue on with a tour extension some where else.
Imo it is too far from Kuta/Seminyak/Sanur/Ubud to be done in one day.
