Default Orwell The Great Prophet

Orwell was of course a creature of The Raj. He was born in British India, the father of an officila in Thge Opium Department. Orwell himseld served as a colonial poloiceman in Burman which in the 1920s was seen as part of the Raj. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_an_Elephant

That is a greater piece of writing than the rather anemic "Burmese Days" which is a fictionalised retelling of Orwell's inability to fit into his role in provincial Burma. The Liberals who lionised Aung San Suu Kyi should have learned from Orwell's writings.

"Father" ? I meant of course that he was the son of an official in the Opium Department
