Ghandhi has never been one of my heroes, but i think some of the "antis" here go a bit far. But maybe we do not need any more statues ?

Gandhi was a consummate politician it is not possible to judge him by todays standards.
His sole aim in his later age was independence of India. In South Africa he was more pro-Indian rather than anti-black!! Regarding Muslims he was pro Jinnah to be first PM of India and so avoid Partition.

i added an "h" to Gandhi. Sorry. I agree with those who feel that Bose deserves more credit.

I see they are trying to draw a moral equivalence between Rhodes and Gandhi. The historical illiteracy is simply staggering; it's beyond parody.

No, it was Gandhi who was the main instigator of campaign for independence, Chandra Bose was a 'firebrand' would have become the first PM if he had lived.
His death still a mystery and some accused Nehru. Probably a plane crash! Many papers recently published but apparently Russia still hold some documents.

If they get their wish in Manchester, in Gandi was a racist, then half the bloody statues in London put up to Victorian heroes should be targetted, especially the one to General Havelock in Trafalgar Square.In the Mutiny of 1857 he was responsible for hundreds & hundreds of ex-judicial executions of Hindus & Muslims, especially Muslims.
