Zipperty-do-dah .... my, oh my, what a wonderful day!

Hi all

Just can't contain the excitement - heard a large plop through the letterbox this morning and knew instinctively it was news from NZIS. Yep, we got the letter saying we are within the 5 points passmark and can go on a work deferral visa. I feel sick with butterflies, all this talk for months and now it's a reality - eek:scared:

For those interested lodged application on 30th July 2002, so just over 3 weeks - flipping amazing!!

Gotta get down to the hard work now - book flights, apply for work visa, tell children's school, tell parents (oh-er, I think they thought we wouldn't be going till next year), put house up for sale.

Anyone got any advice where to look for flights, etc (best price).

Sod the diet, I'm having a few drinks tonight!!!!

Lizzie :D

Congrats Lizzie! Does it say amywhere in your letter that you MUST arrive in NZ before 3 months is up?

Thanks - Don

hey congrats!!

I went to back Auckland in March and spent ages researching the best airfares online and in person - the best deal (on a respectable airline) I found was with United airlines going directly through their web site (amazingly!) it was around £620. Singapore airlines web site also has good fares from time to time.

United flies via the USA - so its the log way around but you can have a lay over in LA or SF which I've done flying to both OZ & NZ in past 2 years - I think this is a much more comfortable way of doing it!

Good luck! Where are you going to settle? (Auckland is best!)

Thanks everyone for your congratulations.

Yes, Pippa, we lodged in UK and initially heard from them after a week wanting more info on previous employment. We found our case officer extremely helpful.

Headless chickens?!! - thank goodness it is the bank holiday weekend and we can sit down and think what happens next.

In reply to the Pleasance Family, the letter states that to qualify for the work visa you have to apply within 1 month of letter and to qualify for 6 month work permit on arrival you must travel to NZ within 3 months of date of letter. If you travel later than 3 months you may only receive a work permit for the balance of the 9 month residence application deferral period." - hope this helps.

Cheers everyone, I'm off out to buy the champers!!

Fantastic news!

I remember that feeling (way back in March). A whole lots happened to us since then
though. We booked flights to go to NZ in September, but it looks like the house sale
is falling through..... And I thought that would be the easy bit. I hope
buying/selling houses isn't such a nightmare in NZ!

Still - it cheers me up to hear other people are on their way!

All the best, Nicki

I hope that IS the case! I wish they'd do that in England - it would have saved us a
lot of unnecessary stress. But - I'm ever hopeful that we'll sell the house
eventually...

Nicki,

Is this the same Nicki I traded some emails with awhile back? Hello if yes or no!!

Buying/selling/renting in Auckland is crazy!! Houses sell and rent with people
queued up to buy and rent. Selling and being a landlord is easy, buying and renting
is tough. We have been in NZ for 3+ weeks now. Took the first 11 days to travel
from Auckland to Wellington and back in a camper. Then we spent 12 days in a motel
and now we are in a townhouse (renting) in Devonport. It took a week of driving
around and checking with realtors to find out that any reasonably priced rental house
(300-450/week) in a desirable area is going to go before it hits the paper. It seems
the best way is to find the local papers, that the individual neighborhoods publish,
and check out the ads. It's almost like you have to be in the area before you know
what's available. Remember it's now what you know, it's who you know, I guess.

Good luck! Our kids start school tomorrow, yea!! I have had 3 interviews with a
company for a job and things look promising. Things have happened alot faster in the
job area than I thought but that's a good thing.

When do you plan to arrive?

Darryl
