Hi All

We've done it. We got our visas this morning. It hasn't sunk in yet

We applied 30 October 2000 in London under independent skilled, so it took just under
11 months. We've got until August next year to first enter. I don't know where the
date came from because we had our medicals done in February this year.

House is already sold (Subject to Contract) and we're looking to move in mid to late
November. Believe me I'd be there quicker if it wasn't for cat problems i.e arranging
quarantine etc.

I hope this brings some hope to you guys who may of thought that London had run out
of visas, especially in the light of George Lombard's message earlier this week. (No
offence George)

Well done! Did you go through an agent? I didn't and I think that now I'm paying the
price for it. If only I had had the foresight to order a new police report in June
when they asked only for medicals. I thought I'd get a visa within the 12 months but
after the year long wait, all I got was a request for another police report. Now
that's languishing in the bottom of their post bag for several weeks and I'm banging
my head on the wall. Ouch! A warning to others... don't assume London know what
they're doing. Oh, and don't bang your head on the wall either. Not good with the
neighbours.

Ooohh. Be prepared. If you arrive in November in Brisbane, there's not that much time
to acclimatise before it gets stinking hot... you'll probably suffer the first
summer, but if you can stick with it, the 2nd will be fine. (According to my
sister-in-law who migrated here from London).

You'll have to get quickly into the way the locals live- try to rent a house with a
pool, and get a barbecue. Then live in summer wearing swimming costumes, and dunking
yourself when it gets too hot. Then barbecue dinner - and have a salad (keep out of
the kitchen).

You can email me for more tips/answers to Brisbane type questions. LJ Wayne wrote:

Thanks Roni

You should be right behind me. Are you Skilled Indy? and did you fill in the skills
matching form? Apparently it speeds things along a little.

Yes, there hasn't been much good news from London recently.

We'll try Brisbane although it may be a bit hot. Alternatively Adelaide but things
always seem static there.

Thanks Jeremy

One of my concerns was that they wouldn't give us much time to make an initial entry.
As I said medicals done in February, but police checks in March. I make that about 18
months from the older document. Great.

Cheers

Thanks Pete,

No, I didn't use an agent. I got great advice from the NG. So you're not paying the
price for not using one.

I think we've spoke before Pete, you applied slightly ahead of me? We had our first
response about 8-9 weeks ago requesting further information. I think yours shouldn't
be long now. Hang in there.....and stop banging your head.

Good news Wayne, glad to see that someone has finally had a bit of good news. I
applied late October 2000 so should here something soon my self. Just to satisfy my
curiosity, what trade did you apply under? Was it IT related?

Regards

MD

Hi Mark

No, I'm not IT, I'm a Civil/Structural Engineer. No fast track here unfortunately.

Cheers
