Default Written statements

Mike and I have each written out a statement with all the details of our relationship.
We want to know if these have to be certified/witnessed?
On the application form it says that statutory declarations have to be witnessed but nothing about the written statements.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mike and Tammi

I think that's a good idea. I intend to get every piece of paper I send certified, just in case!

Whats the difference between a statement and statutory declaration?

Can anyone witness the form or does it have to be a solicitors/justice of the peace etc etc?

Far as I know (which, as we know, is not all that far) a statement is something anyone can make and sign themselves. A stat dec is an official, legal form of documentation that has to be signed by someone in a position of authority..there's a whole list of eligible people. Basically, a solicitor or JP is the way to go, but there are others. Got copies of blank stat decs, if you want them

This is a stat dec form provided by DIMIA (Form 888) for people who are Aussie citizens to complete: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/888.pdf

Non-Aussie citizens can just complete a standard stat dec form which you can cobble together yourself...will attach one in a minute

Well, there you go...I'm using Michael's as a template too. But if you do have any aussie citizens, best to get them to fill in Form 888 (makes life easier for the case officer, always a good thing)
