Default Will DIMIA increase pass mark this May again??

What's the atmosphere like? As most of us know DIMIA increased the pass mark from 110 to 115 last May. Will any thing such be happening again?

I sent my application (skill-independent) to DIMIA just at the end of last week, so just praying that every thing stays the same for another "SOME TIME".

ohh yeah... and can someone tell me what this "some time" is. I mean when, after you have lodged your application, the points get locked i.e, the new point system or regulations dont have any effect on your case.

I can't answer you whether the passmarks will be increased this coming May. No one other than the minister himself (and probably his wife) knows if/when that will happen.

Your points (other than MODL points) are awarded based on your circumstances at the time of lodgement of your PR application. That, however, doesn't mean that your passmark that you're assessed against is confirmed to be the passmark at the time of your lodgement. When the passmark changed in May 2002, DIMIA decided to grandfather applications already in the queue from the changes. There's no guarantee that that will happen again in the future, and there's no guarantee it won't happen either. It's really up to DIMIA and the minister.

No-one knows.
My own view is that tweaks of the eligibility requirements are more
likely than a crude rise in the pass mark, but I could be wrong.

How far back did they go?
Or in other words - how many applicants lost their money due to this
change?

As Peter and Jeremy said - no one knows.

So did I. Took 4.5 days (approx) with DHL and it's now "delivered".
Looking forward to getting that ack from DIMIA.

In my best knowledge - which is not based on experience - criteria get
"locked". The only floating component is the MODL.

I don't know how many applicants lost their money due to the May 2002 change, as it wasn't applied to applications already lodged before May 2002, and those who lodged after May 2002 have only themselves to blame if they didn't know the new passmark before lodging.

When an application is considered lodged? Is it when you have got the acknowledgment from DIMIA or when the application is received at DIMIA?

x-no-archive: yes

Are you using some kind of secret code in your language? Either that
or my English skills are even worse than I believed.

The immigration pass mark is based on skilled people that Australia requires, if the DIMIA was going to rise the pass mark then it may stop people submitting applications for which the immigration points system is catered for.

For Example, Australia requires young, skilled professionals in a nut shell.........so going on the current pass mark

30 Age (18-29)
20 English
10 Work Experience
60 Skill

Total 120

This is the max points a young skilled person could get without any bonus points. If the pass mark was going to increase to 120 then people aged 30+ would need to have bonus points to obtain any chance in getting a visa.

In the current climate, the only option for the DIMIA would be to change job posiitons to 50 points instead of 60 depending on the skill requirements. Tweaking the system so to speak !!!!!

Your application is lodged on the date ASPC receives your application. This date will be clearly stated on the acknowledgement letter/email sent to you by ASPC. The date your acknowledgement letter is typed out is not your lodgement date, however.

Peter,

This may be true in principle but it didn't happen in my case. My
application was received by ASPC on Jul 11 (I confirmed this with my
courier), however my acknowledgement letter states Jul 24. If someone
is on the edge and even few days matter for Age points then he/she may
be in trouble.

Rehman.

This is not exactly DIMIA following its own rules...
Or is it?

Date the application is received at DIMIA, assuming of course it's
legally valid.
