Default Will Civil Engineer still be on new MODL?

Does anyone know what the changes to the new MODL list will be?

No, but I wouldn't worry about Civil Engineers being removed. It's been on there as long as I can remember and with the amount of civils/infrastructure work going on in Oz you can virtually guarantee it will remain on the list for the forseable future.

Don't accept anyone's word for it on here anyway. No one knows what goes on or comes off for certain except DIMA. Sometimes, someone starts a rumour, it gets bandied around various forums, suddenly becomes fact and DIMA know nothing about it. They are not known for handing out info before they want to.

I'm not saying take my word for it, as you say who knows what the inner workings of the DIMIA are. All I'm saying is that it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY that it will be removed in the near future. It's been on the list for as long as I can remember and they're screaming out for civil/structural/mining engineers.

I'm not trying to start rumours, merely assure Luma that it's not worth worrying about. I'm a civil engineer also and I have never been concerned that it would come off the list for the above reasons.

Thanks for the replies.

We'll only be applying for visa in a few months time and need the extra 20 MODL points. But first hurdle is doing CDR and getting assessed as a professional engineer.

It'd bloody better be!
I've only just got the skills assessment back! (& it's not my current work experience, so I would hate to have to go through CDR for my current job!)

Relax. Not having a go at you which was why I didn't reply from your post. Just making a comment. Have been around here long enough to have seen people post a statement which then freaked many others out and turned out to be rubbish.

Don't be touchy. Trouble with the immi forum - no smilies

Hi Graham,

Your memory is obviously quite short :-)

No engineering professions had ever been on the MODL until Civil Engineers were added in May 2005, less than 12 months ago. At the time I had the pleasure of informing IEAust - DIMA were so secretive about it that they didn't even tell the assessing agency prior to the gazettal. And I think that also answers Luma's question - no way that any changes to the MODL would be reported here prior to gazettal!

Cheers,

George Lombard

Thanks for the answer George.

Another question: How often does the priority skills list get updated for WA?

Thanks

Hi Luma,

The MODL I can tell you, for the WA priority list I'll need to rely on Graham's memory :-) It's also a relatively new invention (from about March last year) and I haven't monitored their lists for changes, probably you should just check their pages to see when the last update was. They do answer emails, if that's of any help.

Cheers,

George Lombard

My memory is only good 'till a week last Tuesday :-)

You're obviously right George, maybe I'm getting confused with the skills occupation list - on which Civil Engineering HAS been for a very long time. Apologies... Anyway, I still wouldn't get worried about the MODL, there's nowt you can do about it, and I still think you've nothing to worry about with Civil Engineering. When are you putting your application in Luma???

Will hopefully do skills application in May and then visa application when we're in Oz already - depends on when our 457 visa comes through - at a guess we'll submit application around July.
