Where do we start????
Hi All,
I was last on here a couple of years ago, asking about my likelihood of getting into Oz with my diagnosis of MS. Well, my lovely Consultant said he would be happy to write me a letter of support in regards to my good health, as I have a 'benign' form of the condition (i.e. no problems, just a diagnosis).
Anyway, we are now in a position where were would like to move ahead with our application but are a bit confused as to where to start. We have a house here, which we would like to sell (though how that will work out in this market, I don't know!). I am a speech and language therapist, so i think I would look to have the Visa under my name. In order to work as a SLT in Oz, you need to apply to Speech pathology Australia and once they say I can work there, I have to get a job within 2 years (otherwise I would have to pay another $500 for them to assess my qualification).
So, basically, I was thinking our best bet might be to sell the house and move into rented before lodging an application? That way, we won't be hanging around waiting for our house to sell. Does this sound right to everyone?
Also, what happens if you become pregnant after you have put in your Visa application - is it easily amended? We are hoping to try for number 2 soon
Many thanks for any replies.

Re: Where do we start????
You will need to speak to an agent to find out their fees. Short on money is not a good way to start your migration to a new country...Especially in this economic climate.

And with any kind of medical issue you should be aware that the Aussie system is not quite as cheap as the NHS, assuming you get in.

You are the best judge of yourself. just analyze and study all factors before taking a step.

Sorry, unsure how to quote!
Many thanks for the replies
In regards to the medical issue, I have had no need for medical intervention since being diagnosed with MS at age 13 (I am now 30), as mentioned I have a 'benign' form of the condition. My consultant says it is unlikely to get worse, so I am very lucky in that respect and I don't see myself needing to make huge (costly) demands on the Aussie system.
I think the plan should be selling the house first which will release some money, I can then look into into sponsorship as a way to help with visa costs.
Many thanks, will look into using a Migration expert.

Re: Where do we start????
A friend of mine (another Speech and Language Therapist) had her Visa funded through sponsorship, which is why I thought that would help, I was obviously wrong to assume that was common practice!
In terms of my medical condition, I *know* that the healthcare system is not free in Australia. What i am trying to say is that my consultant does not feel that my MS is likely to get worse/need medication/therapies etc etc.
Anyway, I did not ask about the health issue, really I just wanted advice on getting started with the whole application, and I think the advice to see a migration expert to chat about all the options etc is a good one, so thank you very much
