Default When to do IELTS ? (Aus - skilled independent)

Hi,

I am a non-native speaker of English and I have been told that I have to do IELTS to
claim points for English proficiency.

When should one do IELTS to claim 20 points ?

Should he do it before lodging the application and attach the result sheet to the
application ?

Or does the AHC request for IELTS as the application progresses ? (like medicals)

Any comment or suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks Ranga

Hi dtmig,

Thanks for the info, I was planing to send in my TOEFL resultsheet as the proof for
English Proficiency, but it seems that only IELTS is recognised by the AHC.

Yes, I am from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Hi Ranga,

You most certainly do not need to do your IELTS test before you apply for skilled
migration, although for most non-native English speakers it is a sensible precaution,
if only because it gives you the chance to do the test again if you don't do well
enough the first time.

cheers
