What are my chances?

Hi, I was wondering what my chances are for me to migrate to Australia. I am
a prepress operator (printing) and freelance graphic artist. I have been
doing this for 9 and half years, with out any certification (we really don't
have that in the printing industry here in New York). Also, my wife if a
resident of Australia (here on visa since 1999) and our daughter was born
here in the states... We are trying to weight our options out and I wanted
to know if I would be able to migrate there and provide for my family.
Thanks

When you say your wife is a 'resident of Australia' what exactly do
you mean?
If she's a permanent resident then your best chance is probably
through the Family Stream (Spouse). Plus, if she's been away for
three years she needs to make sure her PR doesn't expire - are you
sure her visa still gives her the right to return?

In that case, Family Stream (Spouse) definitely sounds like the way to
go. But as your wife has been resident outside Australia for a few
years, you should consider hiring an agent to help you, as there can
be complications with the ability of permanent residents living
overseas a few years to sponsor.
Your child will need to be included as a dependent on your application
- there is no such thing as PR by descent.
A separate issue is that you may need trade recognition of your skills
(as a pre-press operator) if you want to work in that area in
Australia. But it shouldn't be necessary to migrate.

She renewed her residency a little under a year ago through the Australian
Embassy here in the US. I figure as much on the Family Stream, my inlaws I
guess could help to in that area (most of my wife's family lives in Sydney),
as for work, I guess I couldn't be to picky, my main concern is quality of
life in Australia and a better life for my daughter.
