just had the news my husband just phoned we failed the TRA. he was applying as a supervisor motor mechanic, he's in the army and has been a mechanic for over 20 years, running a workshop for the last 6 years.
he says the letter says they recognise he has all the formal qualifications but on section 10.1 it says he has failed to provide he has worked in that position for the last 5 years. he doesn't understand, i don't understand![Sad](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/sad.gif)
he provided contacts for references if needed, he has been in constant employment with the same employer. what are we missing here, any advice please.

TRA don't want phone numbers, they want references. He will need to write in detail, like he's explaining to someone who's never heard of his job before, what he does every day. If he owns his own business, then he will need to get references from customers saying what he's done for them. Has he rebuilt a transmission? Get one of his customers who had this done to write a detailed reference about the problem and how your husband fixed it.
It's up to you to provide as much detail as humanly possible, as TRA will not contact references unless it's to verify what has been written.
When we did my husband's TRA, the application was at least 75 pages, if not more. We included every certificate he had ever got from work, references from his employer, co-workers and clients and we wrote a very detailed description of his job.
If in doubt, why not engage an agent to help with the TRA part? The visa application is the easy part once you pass your skills assessment.

It may be worth your while contacting Glenn Newton (registered migration agent, who used to be the director of the TRA) and employing him to help you with it.
It's all in the wording, he'll be able to help you word it right for you to pass.
If you google him, he'll come up in the first two.

They do spot checks too, just to confirm that the info that you are providing is true, check that they have not phoned and spoken to someone, they did this in our case and the person the TRA spoke to claimed that HUB had not done ..... etc so we failed 1st TRA, don't panic
We re-submitted our stuff with a bit extra and flew through 2nd TRA in 6 weeks and visa in 2 1/2 months!
Just double check that no one phoned, and see if you can appeal, saves you cost of 2nd submission

I'm assuming that you haven't used an agent for this. If you would like some idea of what to get written for the references then please ask on here. Folks were really helpful on here and sent a couple of examples of what the TRA were looking for. Failing that they'll be guys who've gone through it who will happily have a read through, if you really can't afford an agent.
As previously mentioned Glenn Newton is excellent even if you only use him for your skills assessment.
They want to know EXACTLY what you do day to day, not just that you're OH is a hard worker, honest, trustworthy and punctual etc. With him working in the army, I can see how this might be a problem for you to get exactly right the first time around. I'm not even sure that we have enough on ours to pass as yet, but having read all the stuff that people were able to send me I hope we've put enough on there. Good luck, and I hope that your phone call bears fruit in the morning! `keep us posted

Been there and done that
PHONE THE TRA !!
be very subserviant, and ask them to explain, in their opinion, what could you do and how would you do what they want to see..
< i did , failed TRA first time, due to missing signatures
There is a light at the end of the tunnel !! Its just sometimes, it could be the 11 oclock from cardiff to newcastle
