Visitor Visa Pricing

Hi,

I am in the process of applying 3rd time visitor visa for my mother, while trying to find the visa pricing for 3rd application, I am socked to see that I will have to pay "subsequent temporary application charge " which is $700 and over all cost come to $1000, can't understand such a huge charges for subsequent application, as she is unable to travel due to international border closure and unavailability of commercial passenger flights.

Was wondering did anyone face similar situation and ended up paying such a huge amount and is there any alternative ?

(PS: First application was offshore, Second - Onshore & third application would be onshore)

Appreciate any response

Cheers

There is no way around this for a subclass 600 visa subsequent application. You could look into a subclass 408 'Covid' visa. There are, though, plenty of flights available out of Australia and no 'border closure' for outbound temporary visa holders.

thanks for your response, though I had gone ahead and applied and was granted another year of subclass 600 visa, can't really understand why visa charges are bumped on subsequent application, which indirectly portrays Gov doesn't wants tourist to stay in the country who are directly/indirectly contributing to the economy in some forms.

Perhaps the government doesn't want to encourage people who arrive on a 1 year visitor visa to stay for 3 years?

The bottom line is that all governments have the right to set their own visa charges, they're clearly shown on the Department of Home Affairs website so there shouldn't be any surprises, and people have the choice whether or not to apply.

Congratulations to your mum for getting her third visitor visa, I hope she enjoys her time in Australia.

There's nothing indirect about it; they do not like multiple onshore rollovers of temporary visas and the charge is intended to discourage this. Absent Covid, it would be extremely unlikely that you would get more than 12 months consecutive stay on a visitor granted.
