Is there any way our in-laws can obtain a 1-year visa for a stay here? Seems they can only get 3-month ETA, extend to 6 is straightforward and then try to extend for 12 months is possible. But can this all be done before they arrive so that they can plan accordingly?

DIMIA don't usually like people taking 12 month holidays in Australia. They feel there is too much risk of de-facto residence being established, and they know that most people living overseas cannot take a holiday in Australia that long.
