Default Visiting Oz whilst applying for PR

We are aiming to submit our EOI for PR visa in January 2015, does anyone know what if there are any rules on visiting Australia during the application process. My partner would like to go out there in January/February time to look at some areas/schools etc.

Also, what would be the maximum amount of time he would be able to visit for, assume he would need some sort of visa just for a visit?

If allowed, he might stay a few months but it depends what our options are.

Having a PR visa in process makes no difference to any other rule about holidaying in Australia and length of stay etc. just got to watch timings for applying for the tourist visa, make sure you are nowhere near the P
R visa grant

Having said that, it seems a bit odd to go and look at areas and schools before you have a visa, not to mention expensive as you might need to make a validation trip as well. But if you have the resources, there is nothing to stop you.
