A FEDERAL Labor government will clamp down on the rush of computer programmers arriving in Australia on temporary visas as unemployment among technology remains at double the rate of other professions.

Opposition IT spokeswoman Kate Lundy said Labor would review Australia's skilled migration program, particularly the so-called '457 visa' temporary work visas that have been used by recruitment firms to import cheap skilled labour from countries such as India, China and Russia.
The review plans were announced as Senator Lundy unveiled Labor IT policies at a function in Brisbane.

I don't get it though - there seem to be quite a few 457 grants.

Another case of appeasing the electorate, I guess...
