Ok, long story short. My in laws booked us flights to Aus for 8 weeks, flying out on Oct 1st (6 days time.... ARGH!).

But they didn't realise we would need a tourist visa. So, through my immi account (with my impending 489 application submitted in Feb) I applied for the visitor 651 visa yesterday.

However, there is a chance it may not be processed in time so I was advised to apply for an ETA (which my husband did online through a 3rd party agent (you can't directly through the government website as we are from the UK).

We received an email from this company saying it has been declined as there is an visitor application outstanding.

am I not allowed to apply for both? I know whichever came through first would cancel out the other as that's what the high commission had said to me over the phone.

I don't know what to do. Do I cancel the 651 application and apply for an ETA? Or do I wait it out and hope the 651 will be through in time?

just want to reiterate, although I was considering a trip out I wasn't expecting it so soon.

Your 651 is probably held up because of your 489 and thus your 601 was declined as you have two separate applications on the go. Who advised you to apply for a 601?
