Question Vic STNI Questions

I've read the Victoria STNI Guideline but I need some clarifications on the matters below:

In section 2 of the STNI application guideline, there is a requirement that says "requirement to live and work in Victoria, Australia, for at least two years. This does not include studying."

- Does this requirement only applies to the primary applicant?
or also the spouse?

- If that requirement applies to both the primary applicant and spouse,
does that mean any study can only commence after 2 yrs?

- What about studying part-time?

- Do the 2 yrs immediately follow upon first entry into Australia?

Hi YinWong,

There is a moral obligation to live and work in Melb and other regions in Victoria for an STNI-VIC grant..so answers to your questions is a big "YEAH" :-)I have no idea about part-time study..may b you can check threads started by Prince1975, who was asking similar questions some time ago.
where do u live in KL?I lived in Subang Jaya for 3 years..enjoyed every moment of my stay in KL and planning to visit KL on my way to Melb during Hari Raya.
Best Regards,
Mohan

I did a search a found a couple of threads started Prince1975 regarding this. Seems to me like the discussions were all pretty inconclusive.

Anyway, this isn't a major a concern.

Thanks again, Mohan.

As part of our application I mentioned that I was planning to return to study (husband is the primary applicant) - there was no comment made on this, so I would guess it would be fine.

Why not contact Vic SMU and ask?

Where did you mention it? In the STNI application form?

SMU was the first that I asked (thru email) but they have yet to answer me.

Yes, I mentioned it in the SMU form and sent references for myself, regardless of husband being primary applicant (I think they ask about partners anyway).

I haven't done paid work for the past couple of years, having been studying and we home educate our children, but I also work as a volunteer for a national charity - similar to my area of quals. and the further study is in an area that Victoria list as needed, so it was IMO worth mentioning my interest and sending in my CV regardless. Of course, I've already worked in the needed area, so can demonstrate past interest and experience.

We heard within a couple of weeks. Husband is a plasterer, I used to work for education dept. for children & young people's services.

Still waiting on TRA............ (I've got a feeling we might hear on my daughter's birthday next week - fingers crossed it's positive!)

I see. I was just wondering what decision you wanted to make regarding this. How long did it take for you to get the STNI?

Yinwong,
I never doubted you CAN study, why not?
In my understanding, the idea behind this is helping people with any of the skills Vic considers in shortage, come and settle down IN VIC. It is not written, but I would assume that this person will live with his family.

It doesn't say you Can study, but it doesn't say you Can'T.
It doesn't say you MUST work in that same skill either. What if you applied as Security Specialist and end finding a job selling PCs?

Again, in my opinion, restriction has to do only with the location. Victoria helps you get priority processing, or allows you in with less than the 120/115 points. They don't want you to settle down in Sydney, of course.

On the other hand, they will ask you to complete a Survey periodically, I guess they use this information to analise and see what 'the nominateds' are doing once there. If they thought that too many people are coming under STNI and then deciding to study instead, or doing sth they don't like, they would put a clear restriction, don't you think so? :-))

See you :-)))))

Sorry, now I read it again, and I see the "This does not include studying" phrase. I thought it was yours, not from the guidelines.
Now I understand your question.
I don't see it would apply to anyone but the primary applicant, anyways!!
