Mr Pants is on a distinguished road
Default validation

When we arrive in Sydney in TWO WEEKS ! to validate my gf's visa does she need to get a stamp in her passport or is the mere fact of entry enough?

Cheers

They stamp all non-Australian passports.

They will first scan your passport then stamp it. The system must have some sort of link to DIMIA. The ATO know when you are in and out of the country as you can't apply for a TFN online if you have say validated then returned home, they know. So the different agencies must be linked up to the same computer program. Entry is validation.

The system that scans arrival and deparuture details at airports isn't linked to DIMIA - it *is* a DIMIA system.

I thought I'd answer Mr Pants with a little more than a one *liner* which really didn't explain validation procedure as he asked, not that there's a lot to the procedure as far as the visitor/immigrant is concerned. So it's a program that DIMIA have installed and instigated and used in conjunction with customs for immigration purposes. Why be so pedantic?

Sheesh.

What ever the computer system is, it is linked to many Australian agencies including centrelink, AFP and others.
When an Australian citizen enters or leaves the country its not only DIMIA that know right away.
