Hiya
For your school questions:
I have been working as a teacher in the UK for 3 years.
Schools in Oz are much nicer! Children learn more topic based work, there is non of the strict numeracy and literacy hours - of course they do it, but it is much more child orientated, and not SATs exam orientated. I found teaching in year 5 and 6 they were doing the same work for their sats as I did in year 8 and 9 of high school!!
There is a lot more outdoor life for kids, and the children are more child like in Oz - there is a difference believe it or not.
I cant wait to go home and teach! As a teacher I am bored of the curriculum here - I cant imagine what little 7 year olds think of it!!

Hooray!!!! Sounds like a decent education system out there unlike ours
- putting kids in school at 4 and giving them an hours homework every
night, well that's at my sons current school anyway.
Not working to SATS, thats a novelty. Next you'll be telling me that
the headteachers want to know the childrens names, not the SATS level
they are likely to attain in year two.
One very disillusioned ex-Primary Teacher of 20 years experience and
mother to a young 5-year old who unfortunately has had to put up with
this education system. To tell me that the education system in
Australia is child centred and interesting is more than I can hope
for.
