UK funding for Australian study
 

Question. My husband is presently working in Australia on a 457(4years) visa. Dose anyone know whether I (uk citizen)am still eligable for a student loan or any type of UK funding while studying in Australia we still maintain an address and property in the uk.The Degree I intend to study is Nursing,I appreciate that this is an rather indepth question but any help will be appreciated.

You should be able to apply for a Career Development Loan but unfortunately you will not be entitled to any UK funding such as bursaries or grants. I'm also going out to Australia next month to study a nursing degree and have recently applied for a CDL - it's taken a long time to arrange but I've finally had the loan approved. Basically you can borrow between £300 & £8,000 (I think) and the british government pay the interest while you study and then you start to pay it back about a month after your course ends. I've looked into getting financial help loads but even though Australia seem pretty short on nursing staff they haven't reached the point of sponsoring international students.

The only drawback is that you're supposed to "intend to return to the UK or EU to work after the course has finished". I'm not sure what happens if you intend to do that and you end up staying in Oz. I'll cross that bridge if and when it happens.
