Hi there....
We are heading to MELB next month and going to stay in a hotel for 7-10 days time.
How much time to find a rental house in MELB and what are the requirement from tenent/agency? Will we get the house in 5-6 days time?
Thansk in advance
LFG

Depends how fussy you are I guess.
As a new arrival you'll have no references.
You'll be competing with other people who want to rent the same house.
You need to find the house that's right for you.
5 or 6 days is dreaming in my opinion.

Hi Frances,
We moved to Melbourne last December and maybe I can share our experience
with you.
We did not stay in a hotel. It is less expensive to stay at tourist park
(aka cvaravan park). You can get a cabin anywhere between $46 to $90 per
night. Our family of 6 ( yup..got 4 kids) stayed comfortable for 14 days
there.
To get a rental home can be a real pain in the butt! Most
agents/landlords would want prove that you can pay the rent for the
duration of the lease. So if you haven't got a job yet, looking for a
rental house can be very frustrating. One option is to pay a few months
rental upfront and also enclosed a bank statement showing the millions
that you have.:-)
If everything goes smoothly, you should be able to get a rental house
within 3 to 4 days. After viewing the house and submitting the
application ( 1 day), the real estate agent will need to get the
landlord's approval ( 1 to 2 days), and then you will have to pay the
bond, the first month's rent and sign all papers ( 1 day).
Hope this help..and see you in Melbourne.
Regards,
Sanif
