Can I apply for a temp work visa (457 I think) whilst my employer sponsered pr visa is
being processed? How quick is the process? I hope to be in Aus sooner than later. What
effect would it have if I am granted a temp work visa then my pr visa comes through on
shore? Thanks Les

Possibly. If you have already lodged your PR application, DIMA may be reluctant
to grant a temporary visa (on the grounds that you have expressed an intent to
stay in Australia). However, you may still get one if you have a skilled
occupation and/or you are a citizen of a Western country.

Temp visas take less time to process than PR. Apart from that, it depends on
your circumstances, where you apply, when you apply etc.

If you were outside Australia when you lodged your application, then you must
leave Australia to receive your visa at a DIMA office overseas. You should keep
your PR case worker informed of your movements, so that visa grant is delayed
until you've left Australia.

However, it doesn't have to be the same office that you applied for PR with -
eg, it's possible to apply for PR in the UK and pick up the visa in Auckland.

Once you are granted your PR visa your temporary visa will cease to have
any effect.

Hope this helps.
