Default Taxes in Australia

hi could someone please explain the taxes in australia. Please make it simple.

For example if i make $80,000 and have one dependent how much would be my tax
percent thanks

Hi David.

Sadly the words "tax" and "simple" don't often go together.

But in answer to your question, at A$80k of income you will pay income tax of
A$24,980 and a Medicare Levy of A$1,200 - an effective rate of just under 33%. Every
additional $ of income will be taxed at 48.5%.

You may also be able to claim deductions and tax rebates against your income to
reduce the net tax payable.

On $80,000 you'll pay about $30,000 in tax and the fact that your partner works or
not is totally irrelevant. The highest tax bracket is 49%. "Alan Collett"

If your parther doesn't work, I thought you could claim a deduction as a dependant?
