Victoria run these "industry panel" things to assess STNI sponsorship
applications - certainly for IT anyway - which come round every few
weeks or so, and so it depends if you drop lucky or not. Mine took 2
months to come so I must have caught it wrong.
WA seem to be much more informal, and after an initial backlog (they
only started offering STNI in May) started to churn out decisions in
only a few days.

With STNI you still require a skill assessment to apply to DIMIA, so don't waste time. If you are approaching the deadline, you will need urgent professional assistance from an agent who understands general skilled applications.
