Default STNI nomination as Network Admin in VIC?

Hi All,

my husband is a Network Administrator & Security Specialist. We will have to do the skills assessment as Network Admin because he is the most experienced at it.

The Victoria SMU's SOL list only has Security on demand.

My question: Could he still be nominated for STNI if he is assessed as Network Admin?

Dear Annelie,

I have replied to one of your other post on this forum also. Please do read it. Everybody these days is a IT Security Specialist , but the only thing that proves you that you know what security is either a CISSP certification or some educational course. So, I do believe that without any of these, the best method for going for STNI is to get assessed from ACS first rather than complicating things for you. I hope it answered your query. Migration Agents on this forum could help you further.

My husband is writing the exam (CISSP) in February or March and is buzy with selfstudy. He completed another course about Security a few months back but I don't think it's worth much.

Security has been part of his job for many years and he has 9 years experience in Networking. He is way too buzy, so now I have to find the answers and get us through this emotional rollarcoaster ride. Please try to bear with me

I am asking this question because I am buzy preparing his RPL to BE assessed and I want to know which one I should concentrate writing on. I understand that you can only be assessed for one of the two. Am I right?

I did read you post before and I appreciate the advice. My attitude from now on will be 'Be Positive and Give it a Try'.

I really do appreciate all advice given!

No, nothing like a degree or an Australian Diploma equivalent. I've read the RPL document through and discussed it with other people and I find that RPL is the only way.

I will continue with the RPL & app and be positive untill there is no option left.

Maby I should write on security and wait until he completes the CISSP and send it in to the ACS. Or I should do the right thing and write on Networking as it is what he has the most experience in. Assessment is after all about what you've done in the past and not where you future career is leaning towards. :-)

I am still confused, maby I should just sleep it off.

I could contact the VIC SMU myself and ask them if he would still be considered for nomination even though Networking is not on their SOL but security is.

What do you think?

Dear Annelie

CISSP does not qualify for Group A or Group B or Group C as far as ACS is concerned. RPL would be best option then. After CISSP of course you can contact Victoria Immigration unit provided by that time Security is on their list.

... and sadly the CISSP is fast turning into the MCSE of the security
world. Every PC tech studies up for it and gets it. ISC2 is supposed to
validate your experience and check your referrals, but it seems they have
too many applicants (or are too greedy) to do that.

I wonder how much longer it will be valid.

I'm currently interviewing candidates to hire a security network engineer
for my team. CISSP is a condition - and even there I am frustrated with how
many of the applicants can't tell a risk assessment from a firewall and SSL
from a hole in the ground.

Hi all,

I am going to go ahead and write about my husband's career as a Network Admin with Security Skills.

Mike, I am sorry to hear about your dissappointment of people with the certification and without knowledge and experience. I assure you that it's not the case here.

I am going to put all my effort into working now. Whatever will be, will be. We are both very young and we'll find our way.

Thanks for all advise given.

My situation is different, I have MCSE and MCP+I with 18 years experience but major as developer and not net admin.
I'm just in doubt if I choose 2231-17 or 19. If I choose 19 will this mean more strict requests been verifyed by ACS? or not? ACS sent me an email that MCSE equals AQF diploma group B.

Hi AlexFer,

Dont worry too much about the ASCO code you put in your application to ACS. If there is a different code that suits your application better, they will change it for you. I nominated system manager and they changed it to system designer.

cheers...
