Smile Spouse Visa

Hi All

Will soon be going through this scary process, anyone got any advice of what and what not to do.

The type of documentation should I start saving that would be acceptance and proof of the pudding.
Would payment of rent to the other partner be sufficient proof ?
Have bank Statements proving we have been living together at various address's for over three years as well as joint invites, Birthday cards etc.
Just any ideas of what we should be collecting in the shoebox under the bed for when we apply.

Any ideas as to how long this process takes?

One of us already an Australian Citizen so half the problem solved.

Many thanks

Hi Fudge,
My first bit of advice to you is to front load your application, which means get everything together, including your medicals and police checks before applying and then sent it all together. This speeds up the process no end.
The only delay we had was over the medical for my step-daughter who isn't migrating with us.
Other people who have front loaded their applications and have had no complications (children, medical problems etc) have had their spouse visas through in less than a week!!!
I'm an Ozzie citizen living in the UK with my UK hubby and I had to sponsor him, this involved making a statment that I would provide accommodations etc for him for a 2 year period and I gave them details of our savings to prove how I could ensure this.
The info they ask for is all on the application forms and in booklet 1 - partner migration, which can all be downloaded from www.imm.gov.au.
Basically, just provide everything you have that proves you have been in a committed and genuine relationship together and proof of your marriage etc and you'll be fine.
Good luck!!!

Like Shell has suggested, go to http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/fam...ners/index.htm for most of the information you need. Make sure you get a copy of Booklet One, as this lists the different catagories of evidence you need to cover.

To frontload (recommended) you'll need your police check and medicals. These only have 12 months validity, so in other words, the date from which ever one you get first will be your LATEST entry point 12 months later (not the date which the visa was granted on).

To get the medical forms you need to email the below address, stating name, postal address, type of visa applied for, how many copies of the forms you need & the age of each applicant.
[email protected]

To get a police check, either check the internet for your local force and see if you can apply online, or walk into any local station and ask for a form. The cost is a tenner.

As Jasper Pentop said, have a look at some other peoples lists. I only posted this for someone yesterday so I knew where to find it. Will save you a search

That there is. I found the most important thing was to be organised, as my boyf was in Australia while I was collecting the info. Work out who you want stat decs etc from and ask for them now. From experience I know that this can take some time to get together and then certified!

Are you applying for a Spouse Visa?

Please note that in my experience neither of these forms are strictly necessary. 886 is an entirely voluntary form for statistical purposes, and Form 80 is an additional character check form, but your police certificate and other information you provide should suffice. My hubby didn't send one and he wasn't asked for one, and he got his visa in April.

I'm applying for a Defacto Visa - so if stuff will aid or speed up the process then I'll chuck it in...

Having passport renewal issues at the min - slowing stuff down

I didn't do form 886 or 80 but when the visa arrived back, a covering letter asked me to complete the "enclosed form 80" so I did. I already had the visa so don't know what they would have done if I ignored it.

Michelle's list is fantastic, but before you panic, I didnt send quite as much.

I have been with my ozzie hubby 8 years and we have a child, so figured that that is good proof of a genuine relationship.

I dont have my visa yet, however the case officer has been in touch, and I need to get further police checks. That is the only problem he has with my application.

Other than the official stuff, as stated in Michelle's list, the only personal stuff I sent was 3 pages of photos, sons birth certificate, council tax bill, gas and phone bill, mortgage statement, wills, a couple of personal statements from friends and a bill from the little mans nursery.

Aim for Michelle's list if you can, but dont stress too much, just get as much as possible, and from now on, dont throw anything away!!

I printed out all the emails we sent to each other while we were apart (we had sent 100 emails each over 2 months). The case officer read a few and made a few remarks. It certainly didn't hurt to include them... we got our visa granted on the spot, right after the interview!

Regards froms 80 and 886: DIMIA was quite happy to get a complete application (incl. the mentioned forms), they didn't have to request anything. Think that also helped us to get our visa so fast!
