Sponsorship by an eligible relative
Hi all,
I have a question regarding Skilled-Sponsored visa (subclass 176).
My question is regarding the eligible relative.
My aunt, who was an Australian citizen, has passed away.
But, her husband and son are still alive.
Both, My aunt's husband and my cousin are Australian citizens.
I wonder if either my cousin or my aunt's husband can be considered as an eligible relative, who can sponsor in order to apply for Skilled-Sponsored visa (subclass 176).
N.B.: My aunt's husband has not married after my aunt and he is not in a relationship.
Thanks in advance,
Sameh

I dont think your aunt's husband can sponsor you, if he is not married to your aunt

i think that you have to give a look to DIAC website , which have the exact information you need
i think your cousins can sponsor you if they are above 18 years old
anyway , i think - as per DIAC site - that your step-uncle or step-aunt could also sponsor you
here is what was in DIAC :
Sponsorship by a relative
You must be sponsored by an eligible relative if you do not have a nomination from a participating State or Territory government.
Who can be a sponsor?
To sponsor a skilled worker you must be at least 18 years of age and usually resident in Australia as one of the following:
* an Australian citizen
* an Australian permanent resident
* an Eligible New Zealand citizen.
See: General Skilled Migration definitions
You or your partner must be related to your sponsor as one of the following:
* a non-dependent child – including a stepchild
* a parent – including a step–parent
* a brother or sister – including a step-sibling
* a niece or nephew – including a step–niece or nephew
* an aunt or uncle – including a step–aunt or uncle
Where can a sponsor be living?
Your sponsor can live anywhere in Australia.

Hi Toti,
Thanks for your reply.
According to your reply, neither my cousin nor my aunt’s husband can sponsor me.
As both of them, are not in the list above.
Right?
Thanks,
Sameh

First of all, do you have 120 points? if so, then you don't want any sponsorship..

Your Aunts husband is your uncle - so he shouldbe able to sponsor you.

i think that sameh ... thats it !!
but if you have 120 points .. why you go for sponsorship by relatives ?
if you dont reach to 120 points , so then you have to try State/territory sponsorship .. it will be more faster than relatives sponsorship
what is your occupation ?

Re: Sponsorship by an eligible relative
Hi all,
Thanks for your valuable advices.
Actually, I can get 115 points only.
Therefore, the Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176) is more suitable for me.
I believe that Sponsorship by a relative is better, as it should provide with permanent residence in any of the australian states. While, Nomination by a State requires to stay in this state for two years.
Consequently, Sponsorship by a relative would increase my chances to find a suitable job.
Many thanks to all of you.

Re: Sponsorship by an eligible relative
I think there may be a cultural difference of interpretation here. In the UK and I believe also in Australia:
An aunt or uncle is someone who either is or is married to (or was if they are widowed) one of your mother or father's brothers or sisters.
A step-aunt or step-uncle is someone who either is or is married to (or was if they are widowed) one of your mother or father's spouse's brothers or sisters, when your mother or father's spouse is not also your father or mother. In other words, if your (eg) mother divorces your father and then marries again, her new husband's sister or brother or their spouses.
I'm not sure how DIAC view divorce, but that's not relevant here.
Your aunt's husband is your uncle and he can sponsor you. Your cousin cannot as cousins are not on the list of eligible relatives.
