Sponsorship Chances ?

Coming to Oz in June on a working holiday Visa. What are the chances of finding an employer to sponsor me if I want to stay longer?

Working as a sales support administrator in the UK for an asset finance broker, Uni degree and 7 years experience.

I've known it to happen. I am hoping for the same.

Is there anything else you can do Claire? Admin workers are not in high demand here so even if you found an employer who really liked you they'd struggle to get the 457 visa through as it's not a job they couldn't fill with Australian workers.

Depends where you go I think. From what I've heard the Eastern States are struggling with some unemployment so you probably wouldn't have a good chance over there.

WA seems a little better in terms of job availability, and they've made it Regional which helps with visa applications.

I came over on a WHV and my employer is sponsoring me to stay and I'm in Perth, so it can happen if you get in with the right Company.:fingerscrossed:

Just because you have found an employer who wants to sponsor you it doesn't mean they can. I had this while in the uk. Employer in Sydney wanted to sponsor me. Found out later it wasn't possible as my job was so specialised it wasn't on any list.
Then found a regional place who wanted to sponsor me (thinking rsms visa just needed the job to pay a certain amount, be diploma level and unable to be filled locally). Turns out there is a list for that too. Still too specialised to be on it.

Trained for something aus wanted (FAR less skilled than what the other people had wanted to sponsor me for). Have an employer trying to sponsor me now, and now we are being turned down for not much good reason. I don't think I could have much worse luck sponsorship wise. :-(

Its not totally impossible to find a category that might suit your trade if you are able to find a sponsor that is prepered to sponsor you.

I spent 21 years working in holland as a buyer & salesman on the Dutch flower auctions, (so in essence I was just a salesman) and managed to find a sponsor which was prepared to do the paperwork. I managed to get my 457 as a "wholesaler".

If you have experience that is difficult to find here in Australia it can be possible.

not sure if you asked me the question (if so, i'm not offended by your post :-)), but I have nearly 30 years experience in large scale wholesaling & export of cut flowers all over the world. We are at present the only company in Australia that imports flowers on a regular basis from Europe.

I changed employer 6 months ago and since joining a very pro active grower/wholesaler we have employed 2 new staff members (looking for another one at present) already and are looking at investing serious money in building a new premises due to our expanding clients and much higher turnover. I/we as a company are creating employment for other Australians.

My ex-emplyer has since employed 2 new staff members also from Holland because they cannot find the required experience here in Australia in the local workforce.

Hairdresser is not on the independent skilled list any more. It hasn't been for nearly two years.

I had an agent for the second job a place tried to sponsor me at (a uni by the way, not just a random tiny company who had never sponsored before). The agent told us to give up as we would fail. Funnily enough they added a category back when hairdressers were taken off the main list which would fit the other job. Didn't help me when I had employers lining up to sponsor me but no visa options though.

Can be done... I'm in the process of 457 sponsoring an Irish bloke that's over on a WHV...
